میں نے اپنی عینک درست کی اور دروازہ کھٹکھٹایا،
”کون؟“ 
”میں ایک مصور ہوں، رنگوں سے کھیلتا ہوں۔
سفید کاغذ پر دنیا جہاں کی رنگینیاں بکھیرتا ہوں۔“
”آپ واپس جا سکتے ہیں۔“
دوسرے دن پھر دستک دی،
”کون؟“
”میں ایک قلم کار ہوں، نوک رگڑتا ہوں،
آنسوؤں کی سیاہی سے کہانیاں لکھتا ہوں۔“
”آپ جا سکتے ہیں۔“
اگلے دن سفید عینک اتار دی، 
سوئے ہوئے بالوں کو کھڑا کر دیا،
بند گریبان کو کھول دیا،
رنگین عینک آنکھوں کی بجائے ناک پر ٹکائی 
اور دو بےمعنی جملے بک ڈالے۔
یقین کیجیے! بغیر دستک دیے ترقی کا دروازہ کھل چکا تھا* ۔
